Having heard about Riseholme through a friend, PJ already knew about the Animal Management Centre and was certain it was where they wanted to study.
“My mind was set. Riseholme was my first choice; I didn’t apply anywhere else.”
Having been home educated before joining Riseholme, PJ has enjoyed settling into college life, making new friends and receiving support from their tutors. With a passion for creative writing, they particularly enjoyed developing their English skills and achieved a grade 6 in their GCSE.
PJ is also preparing to resit GCSE Maths, having rediscovered their enjoyment of the subject with support from their lecturer, William.
“William is an amazing lecturer and made me enjoy maths again. I’m excited to resit it because I feel confident, and he has set me up perfectly for the resit.”
Looking ahead, PJ hopes to pursue a career in conservation, potentially working at a zoo or abroad. They are excited to gain more experience through their course and explore where their passion for animals could take them.
PJ’s advice to anyone considering Riseholme is to embrace the opportunities college offers.
“I have found some really good long-term friends. It is really good overall, for development and preparing you for work.”
