Matilda first heard about Riseholme through Lincoln City’s under-16s team, school outreach and a college open day. With friends also attending, she was attracted by the opportunity to study sport while continuing to develop her football skills.
“Lots of my friends were here, and I liked that we were learning about sport as well as playing it. There are loads of practical lessons.”
As part of the football programme, Matilda trains three times a week and plays a competitive match each week, taking on teams from across the north. She also enjoys using the gym and spending time with friends on campus.
“I love doing the football course because you can train three times a week, and you play a match. You’re just playing loads of football and always improving.”
For Matilda, the welcoming atmosphere is a big part of what makes Riseholme special.
“It’s a small college, so it’s nice. It’s a bit more like a family, I guess.”
Work experience has also helped Matilda consider her next steps. After completing a placement at the college, she plans to gain experience in a primary school, while also exploring the possibility of a paramedic apprenticeship, inspired by her interest in anatomy and physiology.
