Lauren Nemeiksas

Lauren is currently in her second year studying Foundation Studies, Open Awards Entry Level 3 and is enjoying the opportunities the course provides to explore land-based subjects and develop new skills.

Lauren N FS case study

Lauren's favourite part of the course is Horticulture, which she says is the closest pathway to the land-based sector she hopes to move into next year. Lauren enjoys spending time outdoors, explaining that she particularly likes observing birds and learning more about nature while working outside.

Alongside Horticulture, Lauren has also gained experience working with animals. She especially enjoys working with the larger animals, including horses, and takes part in equine sessions at the stables. Lauren says these sessions are great for team building and give students the chance to work together while developing practical skills.

Looking ahead, Lauren hopes to work in the Agriculture sector because she enjoys being outdoors and working in practical environments. She says the course has been beneficial because students can also study their English and Maths GCSEs alongside their programme, adding that she passed her English and her Maths recently, which is a great achievement.

Lauren also says the support from staff has made a big difference to her experience, describing the college as a great place to build up qualifications and explaining that all the staff are very encouraging and helpful.
