Kate Comins

Kate is currently studying our Entry Level 2 Skills for Further Learning and Employment course and is really enjoying being able to develop her practical skills and working with a variety of different animals. Owning two horses herself, she loves working with the horses on campus and has found she enjoys working with small animals too.

As Kate has progressed through her studies, her career ambitions have evolved. She initially wanted to work with small animals, but her passion shifted towards specialist dog training. Outside of college, she joined a gundog group and began training her dog there. She developed the training with scent work and a range of specialist gundog techniques, combining practical handling skills with in-depth understanding of animal behaviour

Kate’s trainer saw her abilities and put her forward for Crufts, the UK’s largest and most prestigious dog show! The entry was a complete surprise and a few weeks later, she received a letter saying she was in. Qualifying is a major achievement and really highlights Kate’s work.

Having been home-schooled for six years, moving into college life and working alongside others who share her passion has been transformative for Kate. Attending college and qualifying for Crufts are two major achievements and makes an exciting step towards her future career.

Kate’s journey demonstrates how our courses can support students in developing confidence, practical skills and clear career pathways.
