Skills Bootcamp

Riseholme College are delighted to offer Skills Bootcamps for this academic year 2026-2027. 

These Skills Bootcamps are part of the UK Government Skills for Life Agenda, these are supported through Lincolnshire County Council. These courses will be run over a 60-hour period, will either be full time, one day a week, or through evening classes, based at Riseholme Colleges Showground Campus. The aim of the Skills Bootcamps is to help learners either to upskill in their current role or to give foundations for a new job role.

Skills Bootcamps are free to individual learners who are over 19 years of age and can be delivered either face to face or with some blended learning, employers may need to contribute to the fees.

AgriDrive: Tractor & Machinery Operator Skills Bootcamp

HortiGrow: Horticulture Skills Bootcamp

A practical, hands-on bootcamp designed to develop core horticulture skills for those seeking employment in garden centres, landscaping, or progression into further training such as RHS qualifications. The programme blends essential certifications with real-world growing, design, and plant care experience.

Gain industry-relevant skills and certifications, learn through practical, real-world experience, building knowledge aligned and understanding of a broad range of horticulture. Develop skills valued by garden centres and employers. Ideal for those starting out or looking to retrain in horticulture

What you will learn:

Species Identification Skills Bootcamp

Learners will develop their species identification skills for a variety of different taxonomic groups in different habitats. You will learn key features to look for and learn the application of taxonomic and classification theory. You will also apply these skills in the surveying, classification and assessment of habitats.

What you will learn:

  • Taxonomy and classification
  • Design and use of keys 
  • Overview of major fauna taxonomic groups
  • Identification of invertebrates 
  • Identification of amphibians and reptiles
  • Identification of birds 
  • Identification of mammals
  • Taxonomy of major plant groups 
  • Identification of ferns
  • Identification of conifers 
  • Identification of broadleaved trees
  • Identification of wildflower species 
  • Making and keeping field notes  

This course will enable learners to develop the wildlife species identification skills that are increasingly important in surveying and assessing habitats and are being sought by employers in the ecology, conservation and environmental sector. A variety of local habitats will be explored to develop identification skills for UK flora and fauna species, and relate this to the survey, assessment and management of habitats. By the end of the programme, learners will be expected to able to independently identify a range of UK flora and fauna species, demonstrate effective use of identification aids, and utilise identification skills in surveying, classifying and assessing habitats.    

Length of programme:

60 GLH through an evening class and some weekends.

Butchery Skills Bootcamp

This training will provide skills for participants to go straight onto the production lines. The course will equip them knife skills, health and safety and food safety. 

The course will cover practical and theory of Trimming and Boning, working at speed whilst maintaining highest safety and food safety practices. 

What you will learn:

  • Health and Safety
  • Food Safety 
  • Knife Skills – knife grips
  • Knife Skills - Structure of knife 
  • Knife Skills - Sharpening Knives
  • Knife Skills - Boning and Trimming 
  • Knife Skills – Primal Cutting 

By the end of this course learners will be able to proficiently use knives in a meat manufacturing environment to perform boning and trimming and other duties to a high standard, implementing the highest Health and Safety and Food Safety Standards.
