Riseholme College shaping the future of agricultural engineering with AGCO

30 Sep 2025 | College

Riseholme College is working closely with AGCO to address skills shortages across the land-based sector through a groundbreaking apprenticeship scheme that combines academic learning with industry expertise.

The programme demonstrates the college’s commitment to working closely with industry partners to prepare the next generation of engineers, while meeting vital skills needs across the land-based sector.

The scheme began in 2021 after AGCO, a global agricultural machinery manufacturer with brands including Massey Ferguson, Fendt and Valtra, identified a shortage of young people entering the industry.

Riseholme was one of only four land-based specialist colleges across the UK invited to take part in the project, which was designed to inspire young people and equip them with the technical skills employers require.

The college delivers the apprenticeship in partnership with AGCO and its dealer network, offering students a unique learning experience.

Apprentices split their time between their employers and the college, developing hands-on skills in areas such as diagnostics, hydraulics and cutting-edge precision farming technologies.

With AGCO providing equipment, technology and training support, students benefit from access to the very latest industry innovations.

The impact has been transformative. Every apprentice completing the course so far has gone straight into sustained employment, providing AGCO dealers with skilled and confident staff.
