Graduates celebrate in style at Riseholme ceremony

10 Nov 2025 | Degree Level

Students from Riseholme College and its sister college Bishop Burton College have marked the culmination of their higher education journeys in a spectacular University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB) graduation ceremony.

Historic Beverley Minster provided the stunning setting for a day of celebration and reflection as graduates crossed the stage to receive their awards, surrounded by proud family members, friends, staff and distinguished guests.

Degrees were conferred across a diverse range of disciplines, including animal sciences, agriculture, criminology, equine, sport and exercise science, teacher training and environmental conservation.

The ceremony began with a welcome from Chair of Governors Angela Moran, followed by an address from Principal and Chief Executive Danny Metters.

Danny paid tribute to the graduating class, recognising not only their academic success but also their resilience and commitment throughout their studies.

“Graduation is one of the most rewarding days in the college calendar,” said Danny.

“It’s a moment when we can celebrate your achievements, your perseverance and the exciting paths you’ll now follow.

“Whether you’re continuing your studies, beginning your career or taking time to reflect on all you’ve accomplished, today marks the start of your next chapter.”

Danny also emphasised the breadth and strength of higher education at Riseholme, which offers progression routes from Access to Higher Education Diplomas through to Postgraduate Degrees and Professional Qualifications, delivered in partnership with the University of Hull, the University of Huddersfield and the University of Lincoln.

“Higher education transforms lives,” he told the audience. “When students are given opportunities and support in a specialist, industry-focused environment, they thrive.

“Our graduates are the proof – confident, capable individuals ready to make their mark in the world.”

Each story reflected the dedication and talent nurtured at UCBB, where academic learning is supported by real-world, hands-on experience.

“Our colleges are unique in offering such strong links with industry,” said Danny.

“Students learn in working environments, gain practical skills and develop the confidence to succeed. It’s what makes our graduates among the most employable in the country.”

Danny also thanked the families, friends and staff who supported students throughout their studies.

“Behind every graduate stands a network of people who have provided encouragement and belief,” he said. “Today’s celebration belongs to them too.”

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from student representative Annie Wilson.

Graduates were invited to join the UCBB Alumni Network, allowing them to stay connected and inspire the next generation of students.

“Be proud of your achievements,” Danny told them. “Carry your experience forward, tell your stories and help others see what’s possible through higher education.

“Who knows – some of you may one day return as the next generation of lecturers or mentors.”
