Riseholme College launches brand-new T-Level in Childcare Qualification

Riseholme College has been selected to be one of the few education providers across the country to offer a T Level in Childcare qualification.

Curriculum Area Manager for General Further Education at Riseholme College, Nicolle Mitchell, spoke about the launch of the new qualification;

"We are extremely excited to be offering the T Level Childcare programme at Riseholme College from September 2021. The current and innovative curriculum allows every learner to experience a range of theoretical and practical understanding to ensure they progress on to meaningful destinations. Students will have access to local industry placements which allows them to put theory into practice, and learn a wide range of employability skills."

The T Level in Childcare, which is the equivalent to 3 A Levels, offers an alternative way of learning with lots of fantastic hands-on practical experience gained along the way. It provides a perfect blend of learning, with students spending 80% of their time in the classroom and 20% working in industry. Students will spend at least 45 days in a meaningful industry placement.

The qualification runs for two years and has been specifically designed with employers and businesses to give students a real insight into working in their chosen sector, preparing them for a career with the practical skills and tools needed to succeed.

Students on this T Level will study childcare core concepts including looking at the wider context of the childcare industry, supporting education, safeguarding and behaviour as well as special educational needs and disability. Another important focus is early years educator specialism key concepts including, supporting and promoting children's play, development and early education, planning, providing and reviewing care, as well as play and educational opportunities helping children to progress.
