Whether you’re a university student about to graduate, or a college student looking to progress onto another course, or even an apprenticeship, there are lots of options out there which may leave you feeling confused. Choosing your career, and the steps you need to take to get there can feel daunting. You may not even realise that many of the new skills you are learning, whatever your course, are transferable across many different careers. How Careers Advice can help

Careers Advice can help you narrow down your options and explain what is available to you, such as training, courses, apprenticeships, jobs and graduate roles. Here are a few things we can provide advice about: application forms, employability skills, finding employment, job interviews, personal statements, university applications.

We want to see you confidently go into your chosen career, and to help you achieve this we have introduced the Get Ahead Employability Passport. Whilst you are enrolled as a student with us you will work towards completing your personal employability passport, enabling you to evidence the development and attainment of the 7 key Employability Skills. The passport is externally validated by The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership. You will have the opportunity to work towards this as part of your Personal Professional Development (PPD) tutorial sessions and lesson plans. There are a number of ways we help you to achieve these goals through having the opportunity to volunteer, engage in work experience or become a college ambassador. This vital experience will enable you to work on everything from your confidence and customer service skills, as well as working in a team or on your own.

Remember as well as all this, your tutors and lecturers will always be happy to give you advice and answer questions you might have about your next steps after your studies. You can also visit our dedicated careers pages on the website for more information and contact details.

Not sure where to start?

If you’re not sure where to start check out the Skillsometer by LMI for all! It's designed for those who aren't sure what jobs they might be interested in and gets you thinking about your skills, interests and how they can link to jobs. (If you're on a mobile, it might be hiding, so pop onto a computer if you can.)
