To celebrate National Careers Week we’re shining the spot light on the fantastic careers and guidance provision we have at Riseholme College. Our expert team are here to help you before you start your course advising on the best route for you, whilst you're studying with us, and how to take the next steps into your future studies or career.

At Riseholme, college and university level students can access free independent, impartial careers and education information, advice and guidance. We have been awarded the Matrix Standard in Advice and Guidance, the Humber LEP Gold Standard, as well as being appointed the only vocational college across the Humber to join the Careers and Enterprise Company’s Careers Hub!

Whether you’re a university student about to graduate, or a college student looking to progress onto another course, or even an apprenticeship, there are lots of options out there which may leave you feeling confused. Choosing your career, and the steps you need to take to get there can feel daunting. You may not even realise that many of the new skills you are learning, whatever your course, are transferable across many different careers. We can help you identify and understand your strengths and skills which employers are looking for in industry. We want to help you be ‘work-ready’.

How Careers Advice can help

Careers Advice can help you narrow down your options and explain what is available to you, such as training, courses, apprenticeships, jobs and graduate roles. Here are a few things we can provide advice about: application forms, employability skills, finding employment, job interviews, personal statements, university applications.

We want to see you confidently go into your chosen career, and to help you achieve this we have introduced the Get Ahead Employability Passport. Whilst you are enrolled as a student with us you will work towards completing your personal employability passport, enabling you to evidence the development and attainment of the 7 key Employability Skills. The passport is externally validated by The Humber Local Enterprise Partnership. You will have the opportunity to work towards this as part of your Personal Professional Development (PPD) tutorial sessions and lesson plans. There are a number of ways we help you to achieve these goals through having the opportunity to volunteer, engage in work experience or become a college ambassador. This vital experience will enable you to work on everything from your confidence and customer service skills, as well as working in a team or on your own.
