Are you looking to further your career in the animal industry? This apprenticeship could be perfect for you. As an apprentice you will be in a position of responsibility in your role at work. You will plan and manage the husbandry of animals ensuring their welfare needs are met. You will oversee the day to day running of the business, support or supervise others, share technical knowledge and work closely with a range of stakeholders. Your work environment may be in kennels and catteries, animal welfare centres, farm parks, grooming salons rehabilitation centres or retail outlets. These may be small independent employers through to national pet businesses.

GCSE at grade 4/C in English and maths are preferred. You must also pass an initial assessment, secure work as an apprentice in a relevant role and have one satisfactory reference.

You will learn through a range of practical and theory-based lessons. On occasion lessons may be delivered online to support your learning and progress.

You will be released from work one day per week to undertake training at the college.

As you will be employed within the animal industry, you will work 30-40 hours per week.
You will be assessed through end point assessment (EPA) and graded pass, merit or distinction.

You may continue your education by progressing to one of our Higher Education courses in animal management and animal behaviour or to a higher-level position at work.
Work as a manager in the animal sector and the potential to develop your career across the wider animal industry in roles such as animal care and welfare manager, veterinary nurse, animal trainer, zoo keeper.
