“I chose Riseholme because it was a local college with high-quality facilities that supported an equine career path,” Ebony explains. She was drawn in by the opportunity to learn in a hands-on environment with excellent horses and expert staff. “The practical side of the course was the part I enjoyed most,” she says. “We had access to high-quality horses for riding.”
The teaching staff played a big part in her experience. “They were very friendly and supportive and they still are to this day,” she adds. The smaller class sizes at Riseholme also made a big difference to her learning. “You feel like you get more time with staff if you’re unsure about anything. It really helps build your confidence.”
That confidence has taken Ebony far. Since finishing her studies at Riseholme, she’s moved into a dual role, working as a second-year student veterinary nurse (specialising in small animals), and as a veterinary technician within an equine department. “My time at Riseholme helped me become more confident as a person. It set a solid foundation of knowledge that got me where I am today,” she says. “I’m now able to carry out diagnostic procedures like radiographing patients, and I provide high quality care to all kinds of animals, from horses to cats and dogs.”
Ebony’s time with us also brought plenty of memorable experiences. One of her favourites was competing in inter-college competitions, where she had the chance to put her skills to the test and connect with others who shared her passion. She describes the college as professional, high-quality, and community-focused. A place that truly prepares you for the next step.
When asked if she would recommend studying at Riseholme, Ebony doesn’t hesitate. “Yes! It’s a very professional college with fantastic facilities,” she says. “Have fun and study hard. Enjoy your time there because you’ll miss it when you’ve gone.”
