Letter from the Principal

Dear student,

As I’m sure you are aware, the Government announced on Monday evening that students will return to college next month. As part of the safe management of this return to college, we will be completing mass testing of all students for asymptomatic cases of Covid-19 upon their return. Our test centre has been operating successfully since December 2020 for those staff and students whom have been on campus. We are now tasked with testing ALL students upon their return to help maintain a Covid secure site.

In order to get all students back on to campus as quickly and safely as possible, we will be phasing the return with a blended mix of face-to-face and online teaching until the Easter break. Each student will receive specific instructions from their course manager or programme leader, explaining when they should return and what their ongoing timetable will be. Students will be booked in for group tests when they return to college.

Residential students should return to halls on Sunday 7th March. Before re-entering their halls, students should book a time to be tested at the Showground Campus via iLearn, prior to returning to their halls at Riseholme Parks Campus.

If you are under 18, please ask your parent / carer to complete the consent form which can be accessed here. Please bring the completed consent form with you as you return to the college.

If you are 18 or over, you will be asked to complete the consent form as you arrive at the test centre, prior to having your test.

Full details about asymptomatic testing at the college and how your data will be managed can be viewed here.

The lateral flow tests are quick and easy to complete, giving a result (via text and email) within 30 minutes. In the unlikely event that a test is positive, you will be contacted immediately and arrangements will be made for you to safely travel home. This result will be recorded on the NHS Test and Trace register and you and your household should enter into isolation and await instruction from the NHS Test and Trace team.

Although testing is voluntary, we strongly encourage as many students as possible to participate in this testing programme.

Students should check their college email accounts and other channels of communication with course leaders daily for updates about their specific return to college.

College transport will resume normal service from Monday 8th March.

Upon return to the college, staff and students will now need to wear face coverings in classrooms, unless they have a medical exemption.

Information is also currently being released about how qualifications will be awarded this year. Further communication will be sent about this shortly.

We look forward to seeing you back in college.
