Animal Management

Riseholme College is the perfect place to prepare for a successful career working with animals.

This could be in animal sanctuaries, zoos, kennels and catteries, with charities and much more.

We have two dedicated Animal Management Units - one at the Riseholme Park Campus and a new facility at the Showground Campus - where students work with dozens of different species. These range from companion animals such as rabbits and and guinea pigs to meerkats, primates and reptiles.

The emphasis is on developing practical skills and knowledge students will need for successful careers in the industry and they benefit from our outstanding links with businesses and organisations.

All students take part in work experience placements with external groups such as the RSPCA and Hearing Dogs to complement their studies. We have an excellent track record of students securing employment this way, with many offered full-time positions at the end of their studies.

Animal Management

The College’s Animal Management Units house one of the most diverse selections of species in the country, offering students the chance to develop a wide range of skills.

With increasing public awareness of animal welfare issues, the need for well-trained and qualified staff within the diverse animal care industry has never been greater and there are fantastic opportunities for being self-employed, for the entrepreneurs among you.

Within the commercial dog grooming parlour, pampered pooches are treated to a full make-over by students who develop their grooming skills, and gain first-hand experience in customer care and business practice.

Students are required to provide a blue kennel coat or overalls and a white lab coat, which are available from the online College shop. Steel toe-capped footwear and training equipment is also required.
