"I enjoy livestock but I particularly enjoy the crop and soil science lessons as my ambition is to be an Agronomist..."

Why did you choose this course?

After completing my Level 2 in Agriculture, it was the natural progression to continue to Level 3. It has always been my intention to study for a degree at Riseholme and Level 3 was my next step in reaching that goal. The support and attention to detail in my learning while at Riseholme has been brilliant. I really enjoy all my time at the college which is another plus!

Why did you choose Riseholme College?

I chose Riseholme because of its reputation also my brother attends and really enjoys it. I knew Riseholme would help me reach my goals in the agricultural industry and is providing me with the experience I need. Lots of my friends have attended Riseholme, and people I have met through young farmers and riding have all had positive experiences and have gone on to fulfill their ambitions.

How is college different from school?

The biggest difference is that you are treated as an adult and have more responsibilities and freedom. I love the dynamic compared to school, plus I am studying a subject I thoroughly enjoy. Not only are you learning lots, but it is a brilliant experience.

What is your favourite part of the course?

My favourite part is the practical lessons, being outside and putting what you have learnt into practice. The practicals have helped me to grow confidence in my abilities. I have made lots of new friends on my course. I enjoy livestock but I particularly enjoy the crop and soil science lessons as my ambition is to be an Agronomist.

Where do you hope this course will lead?

After completing my Level 3 I intend on completing my degree in Agriculture. I hope at the end of my learning to become an Agronomist.

What facilities do you like the most and why?

I particularly like the new farm and the opportunities that have risen since being there, and the fact that we have more hands-on experience and can spend more time with the cattle and sheep when using the new handling systems and round house.

What is your favourite thing about being on campus?

I find Riseholme is a community, everyone is friendly and share experiences of both work and college. I especially enjoy spending time with my friends.

I would recommend Riseholme to anyone with aspirations to have a future career in agriculture, whether you have experience or not. It is a great experience overall socially and educationally.

Applications to study at Riseholme College from September 2021 are open. Check out our courses today.
