The 2020 Midlands Agricultural Engineering Apprentice Awards have been announced and we are delighted that two of our Riseholme College students have received the award which includes a £500 grant each. In total four winners were chosen by a panel of Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society judges, in recognition of their valuable contribution which they are making across the agricultural industry.

The award ceremony now in its fourth year, was held virtually due to the pandemic, but the students were still able to receive their award and have their moment to celebrate this exciting achievement. Liam is currently studying for an apprenticeship with the Canal and River Trust said,

“I decided on a career change to get a better work-life balance for me and my young family so it was such an amazing surprise to win this award. It is going to help me invest in some quality tools as I continue on my engineering course. I want to become multi-skilled and if possible down the line, I’d love to be able to train or mentor an engineering apprentice myself to pass on the skills I’m learning today.”

Owen who is working towards his level 3 Land-Based Engineering apprenticeship with Chandlers FE Spilsby through Riseholme College said,

“My apprenticeship has given me a huge amount of new skills and knowledge. Good quality tools are essential to me but they can be really expensive so I’m so grateful for this award to help me invest in some new, long lasting equipment.”

Congratulations to Liam and Owen who are playing such an important role in the future of agricultural engineering.
