19 May 2022 | College

Students and staff at Riseholme College came together with fellow Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT) partners this week to celebrate the launch-year of the high-tech, higher skills institutes.

The event was the first time students from the IoT partners across the region had come together in one place, to learn about the other’s specialisms and their technology driven teaching and learning approaches.

Approximately 150 students from Lincoln College, the University of Lincoln, Boston College, Grantham College, Lincoln UTC, DN Colleges Group (North Lindsey College), The Tec partnership (Grimsby) and Riseholme enjoyed a fantastic morning as the partners shared best practice, innovative technologies and the ground-breaking methods to upskill and empower the next generation of workforce across a number of industries.

Attendees received a warm welcome from Lincoln College Group CEO and Principal Mark Locking, followed by an opportunity to visit all the LIoTs, who were exhibiting and showcasing examples of cutting-edge robotics, technology approaches and processes across agriculture, web and app development, sustainable energy, electric vehicles and cyber security. The day concluded with an interactive quiz that explored key themes from the LIoTs.

Mark commented at the event “We’re thrilled to welcome IoT students from the University of Lincoln and all of our partner colleges across Lincolnshire. The IoT family represents a huge investment in higher skills related to technology across the region and it’s fabulous to see so many young people benefitting from amazing learning environments – working on the very latest technology.”

As a partner Riseholme College is proud to be the regional hub for precision agriculture and agri-food technologies, working with employers and universities to future-proof the sector. As with all IoT partners Riseholme’s exciting programme ensures students are work-ready and have a clear career progression pathway into employment.

A £1.2m investment in a purpose-built Centre for Agri-Food Technology at Riseholme enables an inspiring range of bespoke higher-level qualifications and free short courses. This amazing facility includes dedicated workspaces, classrooms and precision farming technologies exposing and introducing students to the very latest techniques and equipment to reduce waste, emissions and pollution within the sector and transform food production.

Interim Assistant Principal, Sharon Kirby said: “This event was a fantastic culmination to the launch year of the LIoT. In addition to being able to share and experience best practice from our fellow LIoT partners it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate how proud we are to be supporting the future of agricultural industry, through the empowerment and up-skilling of the current and next generation of farmers.”
