How Can Counselling Help Me?
Counselling allows you to talk about your concerns or worries in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. Your counsellor will allow you to talk openly and will respect you as an individual.
Counselling can help you look at your problems from a new perspective, develop coping strategies and understand yourself and feelings better.
Your counsellor will not tell you what to do; the aim of counselling is to empower you to make your own decisions.
Counselling can help with many concerns such as:
- Relationship or family issues
- Bereavement and loss
- Anxiety or low mood
- Self-destructive behaviour e.g. self-harming, drinking too much
- Fear of failure
- Academic concerns.
All sessions with your counsellor are confidential with a few exceptions:
- If the counsellor feels there may serious issues of harm or danger to the client
- If the law has been broken and it would be unethical for the counsellor not to act on the information given.
