Riseholme College sponsors Lincolnshire Active Sports Awards

Over 400 guests celebrated Lincolnshire’s year of sporting success at the county’s annual Sports Awards. The event, organised by Active Lincolnshire and sponsored for a second year running by Riseholme College, recognised those involved in sport across the county.

Athletes, coaches, volunteers, schools and workplaces from all over Lincolnshire gathered at the Epic Centre at the Lincolnshire Showground for a night of celebration and inspiration.

More than 15 awards were made on the night, including Young Volunteer of the Year, which went to Riseholme student Imogen Leahy. Imogen took home the prestigious award following her involvement with Yarborough Target Shooting Club. According to British Shooting, Imogen is not only a regular and consistent member, she also plays an integral role in the running of the club, helping to support and train the new young members. A very worthy recipient considering this has all been done whilst juggling full time study.

The night was filled with inspiring stories, including Ray North who won the Active Change award. Having being told he had terminal cancer, Ray decided that he wasn’t going to let that stop him raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and earlier this year he ran the Bath Half Marathon.

James Earl, Director of Sport said: “We were extremely proud to be the main sponsor for the Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2017, recognising the amazing achievements of the county’s sports stars. Congratulations to the winners and to all of those who were shortlisted, you are all winners already!”
