This course is for learners who are aspiring to work effectively in a health and care setting, or learners who are aiming to progress to a Level 3 qualification, including Access to Higher Education, or into employment.
This qualification, starting in January 2019, is designed to give you the underpinning knowledge and skills to progress in your chosen career.
You will study a range of units, including:
- Health care practice
- Protection and safeguarding
- Mentor skills
- Solving problems in the workplace.
The course will start the week commencing 21 January 2019 and is expected to last approximately 20 weeks.
You can progress to a study Level 3 Qualification in Health and Social Care, including an Access to Higher Education qualification.
You may choose to seek employment in one of many varied occupational areas. For example:
- Health Care Assistant
- School Lunchtime Supervisor
- Residential Support Worker
- Social Work Assistant
- Hospital Porter.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
Jasmine knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping others but wasn’t sure exactly how.
Her time studying Health and Social Care at the College College has given her a much better understanding of the areas available and she is now intent on working with primary school children or those suffering mental health issues.
Jasmine said: “We’ve learned about helping vulnerable people in all stages of life, including the elderly, children, people with additional needs and mental health issues. I’ve really learned a lot – much more than I thought I would. The course goes into a lot more areas than I thought it would.
“I’ve had work experience in a primary school and a care home. They have been really interesting, contrasting experiences.
“When I started the course I wanted to help people but I wasn’t sure how. This has helped me see what options there are and eventually I would like to work in a primary school or in mental health. Mental health is a really big issue and it is very interesting.”
