Apprenticeships provide you with the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience, whilst gaining a nationally-recognised qualification.

At Riseholme College, we welcome apprentices from any background and of any age from 16. We can support you to gain an apprenticeship in one of the following subject areas:

  • Agriculture
  • Animal Care
  • Business and Customer Service
  • Countryside Management
  • Equine
  • Horticulture
  • Land-Based Engineering
  • Teacher Training

Earn while you learn

As an apprentice, you’ll be employed and paid by the company you work with. You will be entitled to the National Minimum Wage and will get dedicated time for training or study, holiday pay and other statutory employee rights.

How does an apprenticeship work?

As an apprentice, you will be employed full-time. Usually, this will mean four days working with your employer and one day spent with us at college. Your time at work and college will include a mixture of practical work and training.

The type of learning you do will vary dependent on your apprenticeship role, but usually include:

  • Workplace Learning: Your training will be delivered through various methods including the development of a portfolio, visits to your employer by your tutor and classroom sessions.
  • College Learning: You will spend one day per week at college studying for your qualification. You will evidence your work via a portfolio and examinations.
  • Assessment: Some apprenticeships include an assessment at the end, such as an exam.

Applying for an apprenticeship

To study an apprenticeship, you will need to have an apprenticeship role with a business. You can either:

  • Source an apprenticeship yourself and then apply via our application form to express an interest in studying with us to complete it
  • Apply directly for one of the apprenticeship vacancies that we’re working with employers on
