Further Education Residential Students

Due to all Further Education exams now being cancelled, including BTEC, Further Education residential students must now consider whether they wish to remain on campus or return home for the continuation of the National Lockdown. The Government guidance states that movement between home and college must be kept to an absolute minimum.

We understand that some students were planning to stay in halls whilst completing exams over the next two weeks, then return home once they were completed. Now that exams have been cancelled, students need to consider their choice to stay or return home. Those who do choose to stay, will be able to access the wardens/hospitality/cleaning and LRC.  However, depending on the number of students remaining on site, some services (e.g. hospitality) may be limited, operating for a reduced number of hours per day.

If students choose to complete the National Lockdown on-campus, the expectation is that you do not leave campus for any reason and that you continue to access the online learning, either through our LRC facilities or your own IT provisions in your halls.  The only exception to leaving the campus is to participate in the weekly essential shopping trip to Tesco and we only expect students to use this facility if needed.

If students have any issues or need advice in making decisions about the best course of action, you must speak to the warden team BEFORE you go home.

As a college, our aim is to ensure the safety of all students and staff who will continue to be here to support students on campus during the National Lockdown.  With this in mind, if students do decide to leave and continue the Lockdown at home, following the Government guidelines, they will need to stay at home until the end of this lockdown.  Online learning will continue until further notice.

Higher Education Residential Students

Higher Education residential students must consider whether they wish to remain on campus or return home for the continuation of the National Lockdown. Higher Education students are eligible to return to campus to use IT facilities if they are unable to access online study from home. However, if students do choose to return to campus, they must complete the National Lockdown on campus. The Office for Student Guidelines states that only one visit home is permitted during the National Lockdown.

For students who choose to stay on campus, access to the wardens/hospitality/cleaning and LRC will be available.  However, depending on the number of students remaining on site, some services (e.g. hospitality) may be limited, operating for a reduced number of hours per day.

All classes will be delivered online, whether accessed in the LRC or within a student’s own hall of residence.
